San Juan del Sur is a small village located in the southwestern corner of
Nicaragua just a few kilometers north of the Costa Rica boarder. Set against
the prehistoric volcanic hills to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west,
the ambiance is truely magnificent.
San Juan del Sur is one of the most
tourist minded places in Nicaragua. Friendly natives will gladly give you
information and enjoy your presence (of course, spending your money there does
not harm the local economy). Several restaurants along the beach and throughout
the town provide an abundance of local foods and spirits. The view from the top
of the surrounding hills is breathtaking and well worth the climb.
Fishing boats fill the ocean inlet and there are even some commercial fishing
boats and sailboats that are available to rent. Sometimes it's fun just to
go out and catch your dinner rather than merely buying fish and lobster from
the incoming fishing boats!
Overnight and weekly accomodations are plentiful and the village would be an
excellent vacation destination within easy driving distance to many
Nicaragua attractions.
